Rooted in Fako. Connected across America. Building community since 1994.
Fako America connects people of Fako heritage across the United States through culture, fellowship and service. Our chapters create spaces where members build relationships, preserve their heritage and work together on initiatives that strengthen communities at home and abroad. Since 1994, the organization has grown through the dedication of members who understood that distance did not have to weaken community. Across generations and across states, that commitment continues to hold us together.
The story of Fako America began in the summer of 1993. A group of Fako men and women began discussing the future of the Fako community—both at home and in the United States. They recognized an important gap. While many Cameroonian communities in America had organized around their shared identity, the people of Fako had not yet come together at the national level. Rather than accept that situation, they decided it was time to act. Their vision was to bring Fako people together, strengthen relationships across the diaspora and encourage members to contribute to the development of their communities back home.
Fako men and women begin discussing the need for a national organization that can connect the community across the United States.
Members gather in Minnesota from July 29–31 for the first Fako America Convention, laying the foundation for a national organization.
Chapters and members across the country continue strengthening relationships, preserving Fako heritage and advancing projects that serve communities.
Fako America’s journey has been guided by leaders who gave their time, talent and heart to advance the unity, heritage and progress of our community.
Convention magazines preserve the people, ideas and moments that have shaped Fako America’s journey. Explore the publications from our national gatherings.
Fako America’s history was built by members who organized, served and kept the community connected. The next chapter will be written by those who continue that work.
