Mola Humphrey Mosenge

Small Soppo is home, though these days Mola Humphrey Mosenge finds himself in Katy, Texas. A business owner, Christian minister, longtime Fako America member and FECA Houston President, he talks with us about home, service, identity, the Columbus convention, and a question that continues to occupy his mind: How do we get the uninvolved involved?

Where is home for you?

Small Soppo, Buea. Still Buea though, just stuck here in Katy, Texas.

Tell us a little about what you do.

My wife and I own a hospice and home care business. One of the joys I have experienced is witnessing how families come together in trying times.

There is also another side of you—ministry and writing. Tell us about that.

I got my doctorate from a seminary and I am a Christian minister. However, I practice a higher form of Christianity that most people are not aware of. I will soon reveal it in a book, hopefully out by the end of the year.

What has kept you connected to Fako America?

I have been involved in Fako America off and on for decades. This is my identity. I strongly believe in having cultural pride and identity and not being caught up in classifications bestowed upon us by Western politics.

How was Columbus for you this year?

Columbus was wonderful! I couldn't imagine how it could have been better. The organization was top notch, and we had a peaceful transfer of power.

What does cultural identity mean to you?

My tribe recognizes me and I recognize my tribe.

As FECA Houston President, what is one organizational question you wrestle with?

I wonder often, even locally as the FECA Houston President, how to get the uninvolved involved. I would love some angel to come from Fako America and help with that.

What do you hope the next generation inherits from Fako America?

I pray they inherit an organization so well run that our struggles of the past would be so hard to imagine.
